In the last few years RVs have been in high demand. We all know this because of the pandemic. Unfortunately everything shut down and people were no longer able to travel - the only option for a lot of people if they wanted to be with family was to buy an RV and go RVing. By definition, an RV is a self isolating machine so it was kind of a perfect solution to a problem that we all experienced over the last couple years. During this time RV prices skyrocketed, it’s just simple supply and demand because people all wanted RVs, and even new people who had no idea what RVing was before, suddenly started researching about RVs. I have had the privilege to sell RVs for many years and I watched this boom happen. I watched as RV sales skyrocketed and people were buying RVs for top dollar. They were paying full pop for travel trailers and motorhomes. No discounts given because all of the manufacturers were completely backlogged. They couldn’t push RVs off the line fast enough. To say the last few years have been crazy would be an understatement.
You might be thinking: Ok, well now that Covid is over and now that people have all bought RVs, there will be a lot of people who are regretting purchasing them. They realize they’re not using them as much as they thought they would or they had their fun and experience during the pandemic, and now they don’t want an RV. This is true. However, you’d be surprised that we actually aren’t seeing too much of a dip that you would expect after a complete Bubble in the RV industry over the last few years.
Here is the reason: manufactures are obviously slowing down production because you know if they continue to produce RVs at the same rate as they were in the last three years without the same amount of demand, well just basic supply and demand would suggest that if they keep doing that, then that would flood the market with RVs and that would drive prices down.
But manufacturers are smart and manufacturers are slowing production and creating the necessary supply and demand balances that are needed to maintain stability in the RV market - that is the answer to the question, "Are RV prices coming down?". I would say yes they are coming down slightly from the last two years. However they’re not coming down as much as people think they might be coming down because the manufacturers have slowed production.
The RV industry has seen steady growth for the past decade, so we're basically coming back to what I would say is baseline. So if you’re looking to get a crazy steal of a deal, you might be lucky. Keep your eyes out look on sites like craigslist and RV trader and some of these other used secondary market sites, but don’t expect that people are just going to be rolling over and throwing their RVs away. In my experience, RVs are still selling for market pricing and you have to do your research and do the homework to find one at a discount! And always remember to negotiate pricing!
