Eleven long, narrow lakes stretch across this part of upstate New York, and each one has its own personality. At Watkins Glen State Park, the Gorge Trail climbs more than 800 stone steps past 19 waterfalls, with campsites and cabins just above the glen. Seneca Lake, the deepest of the group at about 618 feet, is lined with vineyards, while Y-shaped Keuka Lake winds 20 miles from Penn Yan down to Hammondsport. Ithaca, at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake, is a short drive from Taughannock Falls and its 215-foot drop. The official Finger Lakes tourism site is a good place to plan winery stops, farm markets, and lakeside campgrounds around the region.
In the Finger Lakes, consignment means your RV makes money from renters while you stay out of the rental business. Finger Lakes RV Rentals, the Fleet Manager for the region, keeps the listing current, answers renters, takes bookings, handles check-in and return day, cleans the rig and coordinates service work. Demand here comes from visitors in Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo and New York City who want Watkins Glen State Park, the Seneca Lake wineries, Keuka Lake and Taughannock Falls without owning a rig. They book family summer vacations, winery weekends, race weekends at Watkins Glen and fall foliage getaways. For owners, the payoff includes earnings during the lake season, a pro running each rental, a cleaning and once-over every time it returns, little time spent on renters, and the lake weekends you choose for yourself. A rig that tours the lakes all season does more for you than one waiting out the summer in a storage lot.
Yes. Finger Lakes owners may rent out an RV once the title is clean, the New York registration is current and the insurance covers rental use, and it pays to confirm the state's current inspection rules for your type of RV too. Every booking we set up falls under an approved rental platform or commercial rental policy. Budget for taxes owed on rental income, and review town rules, any HOA limits and the storage facility's terms, which matter for units kept near Seneca or Canandaigua Lake. Our team guides owners through the process, and RV Management 101 goes through each item.
Results in the Finger Lakes depend on RV type, home base, time of year, upkeep, open weeks and how much demand the lakes are seeing. The May to October season around Seneca, Keuka and Cayuga Lakes is when owners earn the most. As a general estimate, owners have seen about $610 to $2,530 per month. Late-model Class C and Class A motorhomes, bunkhouse floor plans and RVs close to Watkins Glen and the wine trails tend to reach the upper end, while smaller trailers land lower. Plug your own RV into our RV rental income calculator.
The top earners in the Finger Lakes are Class C motorhomes, with Class A coaches next. Camper vans and bunkhouse trailers or fifth wheels also earn well. A Class C moves easily between Watkins Glen, Hammondsport and Geneva without towing, and race weekends at the Glen favor larger Class A rigs. For a neighboring market, see our Rochester page, or our New York page for the statewide picture.
Across the Finger Lakes, RV storage typically costs about $80 to $180 a month ($2.75 to $6 per foot per month, based on a 30 foot rig). The price shifts with length, RV type and amenities, and covered or indoor space costs more than outdoor parking and often fills before winter snow. Indoor and outdoor options are available from the Rochester side down to Ithaca, and owners can also ask Finger Lakes RV Rentals in Hornell about room at its lot.
Our territory managers work with professional on-site maintenance teams to make sure your RV is meticulously maintained throughout the year. Your RV will benefit form ongoing attention and basic maintenance like tire checks before and after each rental, roof and slide out checks once a month, ongoing appliance testing, routine oil changes, and more. We want your RV in top shape all the time so that it can continue to perform well and generate revenue. As an RV owner in our program, there are 3 main types of maintenance costs to consider:
1) Routine maintenance: Oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Owners are billed periodically for these expenses at discounted rates, and the deduction can often come directly from the rental profits in a given month.
2) Rental Damages: Any damage to an RV that happens on a rental will be covered fully by the renter's security deposit and/or the commercial insurance coverage. Our managers deal with all claims and repairs at no cost to the RV owner - renters pay the deductible and your personal insurance is not involved.
3) Systemic maintenance: Systemic issues are the responsibility of the RV owner. A/C failure, water pump failure, fridge or hot water tank failure, etc. These are costs that arise from no fault of the renter. Warranty protection plans usually cover these systemic repairs, and our managers work with the warranty company and RV techs to get these fixed. Our managers will work with you to get your RV back in top shape as quickly and professionally as possible.
Finger Lakes bookings mostly land between late May and late October. Weather and events can shift demand, and the seasonal close of the Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen in late fall roughly marks the end of the busy stretch. Racing adds trips to Watkins Glen International, with an IMSA weekend in June and NASCAR in late summer.
For the Finger Lakes region, RV Management USA has a Fleet Manager, Finger Lakes RV Rentals, based in Hornell, whose team handles cleaning, upkeep, listing and renting for local owners. Summer visitors from Rochester, Syracuse and New York City heading to Keuka, Seneca and Watkins Glen keep lake-area rigs in demand. Owners near the edges of the region may also want our Hornell and Syracuse pages.
