For an RV trip out of Hillsdale, some of the best scenery is surprisingly close. Just over the New York line, Harriman State Park covers about 46,000 acres with 31 lakes and reservoirs and 200 miles of hiking trails. Head northwest into Sussex County and High Point State Park rises to 1,803 feet, the highest point in New Jersey, with a 220-foot monument that looks out over three states and a stretch of the Appalachian Trail. Farther west, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area follows 40 miles of the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. And on summer weekends, the Jersey Shore is an easy drive south.
An RV kept in Hillsdale, close to Harriman State Park and the New York metro, can earn through consignment without its owner becoming a rental operator. A Fleet Manager builds the listing, handles renter questions and screening, books trips, cleans the RV, coordinates pickups and returns, keeps maintenance on schedule, and stays in touch with guests. That service pays off in Bergen County's Pascack Valley, where storage costs add up and the New York metro area next door is full of people who want weekend escapes but have nowhere to keep an RV. Renters book trips to Harriman State Park, the Delaware Water Gap, High Point State Park, the Jersey Shore, and Hudson Valley foliage drives, from family summer vacations to fall weekend getaways. The leading benefits are income potential, professional rental support, a cleaning and inspection once each trip ends, fewer hours lost to renter logistics, and personal use whenever you take dates off the calendar. Where parking an RV costs real money, it makes sense for it to earn between your own trips rather than sitting in storage.
Yes. In Bergen County, an RV is fine to rent out when the title is in order, the New Jersey registration is current, and the policy covers rentals. Each trip carries protection via an approved rental platform or commercial rental policy, because personal RV insurance usually stops at paying renters. Treat the earnings as taxable, and in a largely residential borough check local rules on parking an RV at home, HOA covenants, and storage contract limits. RV Management USA's team will guide you, and each step is in our RV Management 101 guide.
Results in Hillsdale depend on RV type, location, the season, condition, open dates, and how much local demand there is. Summer weekends stay in demand thanks to the New York metro area, and fall foliage trips into the Hudson Valley and Sussex County stretch the earning season. As a general estimate, many owners here earn about $720 to $1,400 per month. Motorhomes, late-model RVs, and bunkhouse models usually land toward the upper end, and compact motorhomes that fit suburban driveways are especially popular. For a closer estimate, use our RV rental income calculator.
Near Hillsdale, the top earners are Class B camper vans and smaller Class C motorhomes. Larger Class C models and travel trailers also book well. Compact rigs win because they fit suburban driveways, narrow park roads, and tight campsites in the Hudson Highlands and along the Kittatinny Ridge, while bigger Class C units suit families on a Shore week. For a similar lake and mountain market, see our Scranton page.
Near Hillsdale, RV storage generally costs about $100 to $250+ per month. Size, RV type and facility amenities set the final rate, so a short camper usually pays less than a long motorhome, and covered or enclosed spots cost more than outdoor spaces. Northern New Jersey winters make indoor space appealing. Both options are available around Bergen County, including nearby Mahwah and Westwood, and facilities farther out in Passaic or Sussex County may cost less.
Our territory managers work with professional on-site maintenance teams to make sure your RV is meticulously maintained throughout the year. Your RV will benefit form ongoing attention and basic maintenance like tire checks before and after each rental, roof and slide out checks once a month, ongoing appliance testing, routine oil changes, and more. We want your RV in top shape all the time so that it can continue to perform well and generate revenue. As an RV owner in our program, there are 3 main types of maintenance costs to consider:
1) Routine maintenance: Oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Owners are billed periodically for these expenses at discounted rates, and the deduction can often come directly from the rental profits in a given month.
2) Rental Damages: Any damage to an RV that happens on a rental will be covered fully by the renter's security deposit and/or the commercial insurance coverage. Our managers deal with all claims and repairs at no cost to the RV owner - renters pay the deductible and your personal insurance is not involved.
3) Systemic maintenance: Systemic issues are the responsibility of the RV owner. A/C failure, water pump failure, fridge or hot water tank failure, etc. These are costs that arise from no fault of the renter. Warranty protection plans usually cover these systemic repairs, and our managers work with the warranty company and RV techs to get these fixed. Our managers will work with you to get your RV back in top shape as quickly and professionally as possible.
Memorial Day to mid-October is the busiest stretch for rentals in Hillsdale, peaking in July and August. Weather and events shape demand: Shore trips fill summer calendars, the New Jersey State Fair Sussex County Farm and Horse Show draws crowds to Augusta in August, and September and October bring foliage drives to High Point, Harriman, and the Hudson Valley. Winter is slow, since many regional campgrounds close.
In the Pascack Valley, RV Management USA matches each local RV to a Fleet Manager responsible for its listing, rentals, cleaning, and upkeep, timing prices to summer weekends and foliage season. Local owners benefit from renters coming out of New York City and the nearby suburbs, who pick up near the Garden State Parkway or Route 17 and head for Harriman, the Water Gap, or the Shore.
