Scranton mixes rail history with some of northeastern Pennsylvania's best outdoors. Downtown, Steamtown National Historic Site fills the old Delaware, Lackawanna and Western railyard with historic locomotives, including Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4012. About ten miles north, Lackawanna State Park spreads over 1,445 acres around the 198-acre Lackawanna Lake, with boating, fishing, and trails. About an hour west, Ricketts Glen State Park holds 22 named waterfalls, the tallest dropping 94 feet. To the east, Lake Wallenpaupack offers about 5,700 acres of water and 52 miles of shoreline.
Consignment lets an RV parked in Scranton earn money while someone else handles the rental work. A Fleet Manager runs the listing, answers renter questions, schedules bookings, cleans the RV, meets renters at pickup and drop-off, coordinates maintenance, and keeps communication with guests moving. I-81, I-84, and I-380 bring renters from New York City, North Jersey, and Philadelphia toward Pocono Raceway, Lake Wallenpaupack, Lackawanna State Park, Ricketts Glen, and Steamtown National Historic Site downtown. They book family lake vacations, race weekends, waterfall hiking trips, and fall foliage getaways in the Poconos and Endless Mountains. What owners get: real income potential, professional help with every booking, a cleaning and check after every trip, less renter wrangling on your end, and the RV held for you whenever the lake or the mountains call. Long northeastern Pennsylvania winters already keep it parked for months, so letting it earn through the road-ready season makes sense.
Yes, an RV based in northeastern Pennsylvania can be rented legally when its title is in order, its Pennsylvania registration is current, and it meets the state's inspection requirements, which are worth checking for your RV type. It also needs rental coverage, and each trip gets that protection through an approved rental platform or commercial rental policy. Plan for income taxes, and check city ordinances, HOA covenants, and your storage contract. RV Management USA's team walks owners through it, and our RV Management 101 guide explains the full program.
Rental income around Scranton varies with RV type, home location, the month, condition, availability, and demand in the area. Race weekends at Pocono Raceway, summer lake trips, and fall foliage bring meaningful income, so most of the year's earnings land between May and October. As a general estimate, booked nights typically bring in $120 to $295 depending on RV type, and larger motorhomes can earn around $2,110 per month. Motorhomes, newer units, bunkhouse models, and RVs left open through peak weekends do best. For a figure based on your own rig, try our RV rental income calculator.
Motorhomes lead Scranton's rental income, with Class C units first and Class A coaches right behind. Travel trailers and fifth wheels also book well with renters who bring a capable tow vehicle. Class C units drive straight to Lackawanna or Wallenpaupack, and Class A rigs suit race weekends, though heavy trailers bound for Ricketts Glen should skip the steep climb on PA 487 from Red Rock and come in from Dushore instead. Owners in Pennsylvania's Capital Region can see our Hershey page.
From Scranton down to Wilkes-Barre, storing an RV usually runs about $85 to $200 a month ($3 to $7 per foot per month). The RV's length and type, plus each facility's amenities, decide the final cost, and a covered or indoor space costs more than an open one. A roof helps protect seals from snow and freeze and thaw cycles. Indoor and outdoor storage both line the I-81 corridor, and reserving before fall is a smart move.
Our territory managers work with professional on-site maintenance teams to make sure your RV is meticulously maintained throughout the year. Your RV will benefit form ongoing attention and basic maintenance like tire checks before and after each rental, roof and slide out checks once a month, ongoing appliance testing, routine oil changes, and more. We want your RV in top shape all the time so that it can continue to perform well and generate revenue. As an RV owner in our program, there are 3 main types of maintenance costs to consider:
1) Routine maintenance: Oil changes, tire rotations, etc. Owners are billed periodically for these expenses at discounted rates, and the deduction can often come directly from the rental profits in a given month.
2) Rental Damages: Any damage to an RV that happens on a rental will be covered fully by the renter's security deposit and/or the commercial insurance coverage. Our managers deal with all claims and repairs at no cost to the RV owner - renters pay the deductible and your personal insurance is not involved.
3) Systemic maintenance: Systemic issues are the responsibility of the RV owner. A/C failure, water pump failure, fridge or hot water tank failure, etc. These are costs that arise from no fault of the renter. Warranty protection plans usually cover these systemic repairs, and our managers work with the warranty company and RV techs to get these fixed. Our managers will work with you to get your RV back in top shape as quickly and professionally as possible.
Scranton's main rental season runs from roughly May to October. Weather and events drive demand: summer brings lake weekends at Wallenpaupack and NASCAR racing at Pocono Raceway, and Labor Day weekend in September brings La Festa Italiana to downtown Scranton. October foliage across the Poconos and Endless Mountains keeps bookings strong, while winter is quieter, with some ski trips.
Once your RV is approved, RV Management USA hands it to a Fleet Manager, who takes over its cleaning, upkeep, listing, and rentals for trips out of the I-81 corridor. After a Sunday return from a Pocono Raceway weekend, that manager walks the RV with the renter, deep-cleans it, and restocks propane and basics. Local owners benefit from renters driving in from New York and Philadelphia. Nearby, our Allentown page covers the Lehigh Valley, and the Pennsylvania page covers the rest of the state.
